Hi Payal, I am a 30 year old single female. I have done my masters in pharmacy and have 5.5 years of corporate pharma industry experience. i had a rural posting 6 months back with an ngo based in healthcare as part of a csr activity where i realized i have a flair of teaching because of my background is story telling, music and drama and am mainly good with enhancing people's interaction and communication skills. i got interested in MA in education course by azim premji university whose course work matches my personality. what i am skeptical now is that i am unable to decide whether i should quit my job to pursue this course or should i do BEd or DEd through distance education while working?
12 Mar 2017, 10:09pm
Hi Lakshmi, thanks for your question. It is interesting to know about your career and now your discovery for your flair in teaching (which you seem passionate about). You say the MA course matches in your personality - in what way? To work or pursue your education would depend on the opportunity cost - how much are you ready to give away in the short run to earn in the long run . Also depends on 2 key resources which is time and finances that you can invest. Hope this will give you clarity to do away with your skeptism and follow your passion. All the very best! Dear Shuchi. Thanks for reaching out. Clearly you have been a thoughtful mother and have transformed a challenging circumstance in your life into that of adding value to not just your child but also those around you. In my opinion do what gives you joy! lt will give you direction if you were to seek feedback from the school as what are the specific areas of development for you to work on. You can make either of the choices: If you have come this far in your education and experience - you may want to upskill and do a full time course and apply at another school. Else, you may like to go back to accounting since anyway the you have had formal education and you have your internal wisdom that has equipped you well to take care of your child. So i'm looking for T3 certification but not able to find a suitable one in Pune, could you please suggest something reasonable and is it an ideal way to start as a voice and accent trainer or communication trainer?

Hello Pooja. Good to know you experience in content writing. May I know if you have done any certification in it. If yes, where from? As I understand you are keen to change your stream to training. T3 is a good alternative considering the training space is becoming more structured and formalized. A few options that came up on the net are - ISTD, Dale Carnegie, one is in Pune IITD (but to be candid you may want to do your due diligence). Hi Payal, I am Ramya working as a teacher for the past seven and half years. I am a teacher for special needs working for an international school in Myanmar. I have worked in international schools in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India. I am a trailing spouse(husband an Indian diplomat), so I want to venture into consultancy related to curriculum development and training. I cannot work in most countries so looking for an online job. I have experience of Cambridge, IB, American and Canadian curriculum. I am planning to get certified as a special needs teacher form University of Northampton, UK. Please suggest how to restructure my career.I have experience with rubrics, unit plans, standards and also with differentiation for children with learning disabilities. I can start from July 2016 since I will complete my contract with the existing school.
15 Apr 2016, 01:06pm
Hi Ramya, Apologies for not being able to revert earlier and many thanks for reaching out with your query. You indeed have a rich and varied experience in the space of special needs. Your international stints are an added benefit considering the expanse and exposure that you may have to excel. You mentioned you want to venture into consultancy related to curriculum development and training-would this be a for special needs or generic? If for special needs - may be a good idea to start your own online coaching for parents as this still is a niche and growing area of need and am certain would benefit many. Else you could connect with training start ups - wherein they provide online training/ counselling to the relevant audience. Alternatively you could reach out to start ups that would like you to design any curriculum for special needs or otherwise. Sincerely hope this helps! All the very best to you. Best regards, Payal

I want to know how to negotiate for better payment. How to know what is the appropriate charges for a given work - for example if I am asked to prepare the content for a book - how will I know what is the rates for which I should work - for preparing material for one chapter whether I should ask for hundred rupees or five hundred rupees or if I am offered a particular rate for the same how will I know it is the current market rate earlier i was working for a transcription company and they were paying 6 rupees for one minute of audio - after asking repeatedly and after a year, they made it 7 rupees for one minute - i did not know the market rate what other companies were offering - i continued working with them because of the comfort factor they were friends - known to us already. then i stopped doing because i was having problems with listening and typing - ear pain etc. if I need to ask for more how best to ask - because I feel scared I may lose even that one opportunity to work - as I will have nothing else to do and I tend to accept the job on their terms how should I negotiate for better payment terms? My current status on my job is - last month I did a tagging project for the company where I am supposed to get 5000 rupees for tagging 500 questions but I have been paid 4000 and told I will get the remaining 1000 after the client approves of the work. this month there was one job offer from them but i could not go in person to attend the training required for that so i have to wait till next time they get a project - so i am idle now. I thought I should have two or three options because i am working from home and on my own terms - so i will need more options rather than stick to a single company for work.

Hi ma'm Basically i am looking for better communication skills with bosses and management -salary negogiations A little of my back ground: i have registered with sheroes couple of days back and i am looking for jobs that i can do online from home. i was a lecturer for 4 years(immediately after marriage) 2000-2004 and then i took a break as i had to go for treatment for infertility ( no success had health problems) - after a long break of 7 years i again applied for a job and worked for one year in a different college. again i quit because there were some performance issues and then could not immediately land another job. so i left it at that and decided to stay home and work because i have been shifting jobs too many times I always felt i was getting paid very less - never knew if i was worth more - and i dont know to negogiate even at present i am working for a kpo as a subject matter expert - where i initially told they were paying less then i accepted the increased amount they were paying - but the jobs there is very less and far between - i get into long gaps - i dont understand what is lacking in my communication. i have again applied for other online free lancing jobs through sheroes. i would like to be prepared to face the people who might contact me * Qualification : MCA (correspondence) * my interests are : Preparing teaching material - what ever form Content witing Coding * I prefer having a choice of timing of work and amount of work * I keep feeling i get strained and dull when i have to concentrate too much - so i am not interested in studying further than that i already know. i have to do my phd. * i had taken counselling sessions at work (college) which was common for all and again individually when i was sick * i feel shy/ awkward communicating with my in laws who are with me about my job - may be because i keep changing and feel they will tease me - Hope i have communicated clearly my position. Looking forward to your guidance

Hi Payal, Thankyou so much for your motivation. I am based in Hyderabad. I am sincere , hardworking and give 100% commitment to whatever work I take up. I am good in spatial arrangement thinking and in problems that involve analytical thinking. I am good in Engineering drawing, I would not mind a part time opening in this area. I am not in touch with Design Engineering since last 14 years , so do not want to go back to that field. But something related to Engineering field where somebody is there to guide me initially is fine with me. If I have to upgrade my skills I am fine with it. I like creative writing, just a beginner in that field . I am interested in solving sudoku, crossword, yoga. Indian Handicrafts and temple architecture is something that has always fascinated me.

Hi Srividya, Hope you are doing well. And thanks for sharing your thoughts about what you'd like to pursue. As I understand' " you don't mind a part time job in Engineering drawing.." my question is what are you doing right now in your thoughts/ words/ actions to get closer to your goal... Also what struck me most is about your fascination is temple architecture- it is indeed our valuable heritage. What's this fascination for it like for you... Awaiting your revert Best wishes, Payal

Hi Payal, I am a Civil Engineer by qualification and my professional experience of 6.5 years was in Design Engineering. I took a break of 8 years from my professional career in order to raise my son. Later I restarted my career in the academic field and was teaching in an ICSE school . I taught Technical Drawing applications to std 9 , 10 and physics to std 6 to 10. Later due to relocating to another city I again had to take a break. Now its two years since I took the break and would like to get back into work. I want to take up something interesting. Could you suggest what all oppurtunities are there?. I would prefer flexi time type of job . I am not very keen to get back into teaching at school or design engineering either. I want to upgrade my skills but am not sure about the various options. Could you please guide me.

Dear Srividya, Thanks for reaching out. Indeed you have achieved a professional career in Civil engineering and teaching too. And also personal career in raising your son. Wanting a change is indeed a sign of growth. To look for something novel begins with acknowledging and accepting your victory till here. It may be a good idea to reflect on what is that something interesting for you - that may give you the time and also flexibility. The question is ' what does your heart want to do?' and what would you like to upgrade your skills to... Please guide me to guide you :)

Hi Payal, Thanks for your response and guidance at every step. I tried some interviews but was rejected.Every HR needs a trained employee in this field. The corporate market is very competitive so HR wants to hire a complete packaged trainer for the organisation. Due to lack of knowlege of training field, it is not feasible to get On-job training to increase skill-set. Also, I tried to contact Wavelengh (Noida) many times. There was no response to the contact numbers specified on the website. Creative Agni is run by same person but the stuff written there is old. No updates for the website after year 2010. It seems either it is closed or information has changed to another website. Please provide contact info if you have any. Please help in case you can specify any particular certification course from reputed org. Thanks and Regards, Shilpi Agrawal

Hi again Shilpi, You are most welcome and certainly are courageous to chase your dreams. Not many people can do that. But the real test is continue after it no matter what and win! - (if that is your goal). I have already advised in my previous comment that I just wrote - keep pursuing training consultancies and start ups. Also you may want to reach out to Dale Carnegie. Hope all this helps you. And if you are more curious to know about discovering your true potential- you may register for a workshop in Neuro Lingusitic Programming (NLP) with me. Let me know if you are interested. All the best! Regards, Payal

Hi Payel, Thanks for your reply. I worked as a SME and took batches of 10-15 employees for treasury services(process specific) training for international bank. I found my interest in the training field. T3 certification equips me to 1 Ice breakers 2. How to face and handle the audiuence. 3. Types of Audiences in specific training 4. Physical Gestures and to be maintained while taking a session. 5. Games and activities are an important part of training session(time specified) 6. Subject matter is important and should be interesting to keep audience intact. 7. Timelines are very important to adhere. 8. Conclusion must be strong to help them understand the complete concept. But, this certification does not give any info about the feedback analysis/reports/MIS/content development/TNA/TNI/WBT and all the rest mentioned in the previous email. I tried to research on courses offered on various websites but could not find anything worth as yet. The courses offered are either too expensive or do not have cover all the topics which I want to pursue. Kindly give your valuable suggestion and guidance in this matter.

Hi Shilpi, Thanks that gives me an insight into your skill and learning experience. You may want to check with NIIT, Wavelength (Noida)...for such skill development requirements. The other option is to join a training venture and learn the skills on the job - this way you can start taking batches and also take on learning a new skill at work. Hope this helps. In my view learning is a long term investment and never goes wasted. Wish you all the very best. Best regards, Payal

Hi Payal, Thanks for the prompt reply. Your question is very relevant. I've worked a great deal with communication training and ave trained through Next links for a number of major corporate companies as HSBC, Wipro,IBM etc.I set up the communication training department at the Medical billing KPO and managed their process training team as well. I'm very interested in getting into life skill training areas and quite interested in the image management area. I've worked with children of all ages in schools and have run a nursery school at Delhi very successfully for a period of 4 years and helped a number of my students get admitted to some of the prestigious schools in Delhi. I need a steady income right now due to commitments; therefore, can experiment only with a certain amount of income coming in.

Thanks Sheela. Your revert certainly gives me an insight into the kind of trainings that you have engaged in. Based on your interests; you may like to explore - image consulting courses as they seem to trending. Also in the life skills space - you may like to opt for based on your key area of interest on trainings like Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) which incidentally I chose as my purpose , Positive parenting, Emotional freedom technique( EFT) and so on. I would recommend to pick up freelance training to sustain you whilst you pursue your area of interest. Hope this helps! Wish you all the very best.
